Dear al Queda: More Recruiting Tools 4U!

by: fairleft

Fri May 08, 2009 at 13:11:32 PM EDT

-- Barack Obama

[I]mages of prisoner maltreatment at Abu Ghraib still serve as recruiting tools for al-Qaeda. [E]ach civilian casualty for which we are even remotely responsible sets back our efforts to gain the confidence of the Afghan people . . .

-- Mike Mullen, Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff

Yes, well, 'even remotely responsible' doesn't square with U.S. shrapnel from a U.S. bomb dropped by the U.S. directly implanting itself in a child's face 7000 miles away from the U.S. That said, here are the results of the May 4-5 U.S. bombardment and killing of at least 147 civilians in Farah, Afghanistan. Nothing has changed post-Bush, so now I bring you, because the mainstream media refuses to, Obama's latest "recruiting tools for al-Queda":

The U.S. has also ordered its obedient Pakistan army to do similar to Pakistani civilians:

The Pakistani army's assault against Islamic militants in Buner, in northwest Pakistan, is flattening villages, killing civilians and sending thousands of farmers and villagers fleeing from their homes

This is U.S. imperialism. Are you so frightened by the 'Taliban gonna take over Pakistan!' myth or so in Obama love that you're okay with this? Is it worth it, as Madeleine Albright would say?

Or you can read the current views of Taliban leaders, which haven't changed. (0.00 / 0)

Humanz ain't evolved far enough for your thesis to hold water.

I presume your thesis is that we can all be scared straight by war porn. I suggest you include, by editing, some acid scarred women who were on their way to school, some scenes of medieval culture caused by religious fundamentalism, and perhaps a paragraph cut from V.S. Naipaul, who seems to have a far better understanding of what a world wide religious war looks like. Ever hear of Dream Angel?

http://www.slate.com/id/221789...

You just don't get it do you? (4.00 / 4)
It's not even about the Taliban. Taliban is the new generic word. Like AQI. Take a look at the Reuters pics of refugees coming out of the war zone right now if you don't believe me. Not a burqa in sight, fuckbag.

And Naipaul. Groan. This again. As per your link, Naipaul is Left Behind for the 'educated' class. Why won't you read beyond the liberal apologist sphere? Are these authors just incidental on your way to the truth? God I hope so.

[ Parent ]
Sorry, Laura. Your derogatory epithets betray your closed mind. (0.00 / 0)

If you had something to suggest, I presume you would. You have no idea what or how widely I read, or talk, or preach, for that matter.

Don't lecture me on closed minds because my gloom tries to approach reality. I understand reality well enough to quit motorcycling at 70 after more than fifty trouble free years.

The dangerous world is still dangerous, and not just in traffic. Check out the Herman Kahn. Reality bites. You're talking about kissing pit bulls with laid back ears.

I listen to Juan Cole a lot. He's the poster boy for brainless solutions to difficult social problems. His assumptions about human instincts are hopelessly whitewashed by his chosen audience, the Amy Goodmans of the information culture.

I watch Charlie Rose, attend gooey seminars at UC Berkeley, talk to normal people with normal problems in my large coop, on which board of directors I serve. I don't deal with Muslims, generally, because on the scale of religious bentheads, they're close to the top. I'd rather talk to Scientologists.

Islam is the religion of submission, right? I think that violates polymorphous perversity, a human trait I hold dear. In a Brave New World, I'm on the Island. YMMV.

[ Parent ]
What on earth does any of this have to do with religion? (4.00 / 1)
It's about regional dominance and about resource security. If these people in our sights were zoroastrian, what would you bitch about? The silliness of fire rituals?

[ Parent ]
It would depend of whether Z's were dedicated to the umma, sharia, and suicide. (1.00 / 1)
You find nothing weird about a billion person suicide cult with a strong resistance to science and personal freedom?

Address the concepts of the death fatwa for former Muslims, advocated yesterday by the negotiator for the Taliban. You fail to distinguish between religions. They're not all the same. Some are regular mental plagues, others just a chronic sniffle.

You, for instance, would not be allowed to debate me, a man, in a public place, like this blog, since your computer would be banned, or strictly filtered. Actually, you wouldn't be allowed a computer, or a radio.

Ask the Iranians. Did you read Lolita in Tehran?

[ Parent ]
There isn't even electricity in those mountainous regions (4.00 / 2)
why would you expect a thriving blog community?  This is getting ridiculous and I have some errands to run, but I'll say this one thing - you are still failing to see the similarities between 'fatwas' and military mission statements. All armies have death wishes. Just because the current enemy writes in a few referential Islamic axioms into their press releases doesn't mean that that's the reason they are fighting. Compare this to the claims of proselytizing evangelicals in the military. Sure, it happens, it's disgusting and venal, but with or without the evangelicals in our military...we'd manage to maintain our war on everything.

And no, I don't read propaganda for propaganda's sake.

Failure to reach accord with Taliban. Enlistment of tribal warlords who caused the emergence of the Taliban. Brilliant moves. Inevitable.

Like Indiana Jones in the marketplace, confronted with a crazed sword-wielding religious maniac, we pull our gun and end the confrontation. It's coming to this.

And for a weirdly brilliant evisceration of human societal failings, who better than Herman Kahn?

http://www.texaschapbookpress....

If you want to save the human race (Do I presume too much?) then perhaps a bloody-minded look at religion itself might be a good idea.

We need comforting secularism. Think about it. The only good, among all its bad points, that religion does is comfort the mind anxious about its death. A social order that promised eternal fame among peers, like Joe Namath or Abraham Lincoln, would seem to be along that path.

Another alternative is to skip religion itself and move directly to opiates, as Marx was suggesting. If you're trying to make humanity happy, why not go the natural route, which is adjustment of the serum level of chemicals?

Timothy Leary's not dead, his ideas are just sleeping.

How again exactly would abandoning religion (4.00 / 4)
stop the drones and the bombs and the sanctions and the starvation and the false imprisonment and the fucking WAR CRIMES? How? I mean I'm all for it, but I think you are mixing ideologies. Say what you really mean.

[ Parent ]
I'm talking about successful body work on the crash mangled human psyche, large scale. (1.00 / 1)

You want engagement, mention with some understanding the concepts driving Leo Strauss, Plato, Goering, Israel and GIYUS, William James, Damasio, Dawkins, Hitchens, Izzy Stone, Naipaul, Taleb, Krugman, Kucinich, Dylan, Huntington, Stratfor, and that supreme pragmatist, OObama.

Don't waste my time with high fructose happy talk. We're close to nuclear war with people who don't mind dying for their religion, and who have demonstrated that with hundreds of suicide attacks.

There is no question that worldwide guerrilla war is going on, right now. Pirates, IEDs, Taliban, Sharia. I'm convinced.

If Pakistan falls to sharia, and the first nuke is detonated, even against India, I suspect you will change your tune. Might as well change it now. I think that first nuke is a certainty. I can only hope it tilts the world back from the fundamentalist precipice it currently teeters on, but I find doom science fiction more in line with reality than happy talk based on dreams of perfect genomes.

[ Parent ]
Thanks for not answering (4.00 / 2)
Worldwide guerrilla is only a natural reaction, at this point. Religion has zero influence. Resistance would exist in the same intensity with or without supernatural belief systems. Show me any evidence to the contrary, instead of stringing together unrelated ideologues, several whose comcepts it seems you still need 'some understanding' of.

And spare me that "pakistan falling to sharia" rubbish, there hasn't been a representative gov for years, and this is at our bidding. The listless for-hire pak. gov/army is more likely to start nuclear war, and it would be with our blessing. Even if somehow he taliban 'took over' pakistan - which is logistically and strategically impossible - they as a somewhat coherent confederation would never invite the world's wrath like that.

[ Parent ]
I'll just let that post cook for a while. Wow. (0.00 / 0)
Religion is zero influence? You mean in the Middle East? World wide? Didn't you just mention Left Behind? Are you sober? (You did mention this recently.)

Representative government relates to actual rule how? I certainly don't think governments are representative of the

Resistance to what? You seem to be operating on the presumption that only the USA has bad governance. I observe mostly bad governance, with a few exceptions: Scandinavia, France, (secularist).

[ Parent ]
Yeah I said it (3.00 / 2)
But you took it out of context to form your response, since you had no other.

Religion has zero influence - on what we are talking about. Not in toto, douchey. Did you forget the sequence of events that got us involved in the middle east?

(hint - it wasn't 9-11, the feminists, or any secular human rights movement)

[ Parent ]
Lost a piece of that one. (0.00 / 0)
Representative government relates to actual rule how? I certainly don't think governments are representative of the

needs of the human race, but certainly some do better at it.

Talking about governance at this point in the rolling disaster called human events seems a bit frivolous.

Disease, starvation, war. Let's look at their genesis.

[ Parent ]
Well that wasn't my focus, just trying to explain (3.00 / 1)
it was you who were exhibiting an irrational fear of the subversion of Pakistan.

[ Parent ]
Irrational fear? (0.00 / 0)
Hmmmm.

Ten billion dollars gone, Pak minister of defense whining on TV about "can't handle Taliban without much more help", exodus of a few hundred thousand people from Swat valley, schools blown up, supply depots essential to Afghan war disrupted constantly.

No problem. I'm just irrational.

You're a trip.

The myth of Talibanistan
By Pepe Escobar

Apocalypse Now. Run for cover. The turbans are coming. This is the state of Pakistan today, according to the current hysteria disseminated by the Barack Obama administration and United States corporate media - from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to The New York Times. Even British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said on the record that Pakistani Talibanistan is a threat to the security of Britain.

But unlike St Petersburg in 1917 or Tehran in late 1978, Islamabad won't fall tomorrow to a turban revolution.

Pakistan is not an ungovernable Somalia. The numbers tell the story. At least 55% of Pakistan's 170 million-strong population are Punjabis. There's no evidence they are about to embrace Talibanistan; they are essentially Shi'ites, Sufis or a mix of both. Around 50 million are Sindhis - faithful followers of the late Benazir Bhutto and her husband, now President Asif Ali Zardari's centrist and overwhelmingly secular Pakistan People's Party. Talibanistan fanatics in these two provinces - amounting to 85% of Pakistan's population, with a heavy concentration of the urban middle class - are an infinitesimal minority.

The Pakistan-based Taliban - subdivided in roughly three major groups, amounting to less than 10,000 fighters with no air force, no Predator drones, no tanks and no heavily weaponized vehicles - are concentrated in the Pashtun tribal areas, in some districts of North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), and some very localized, small parts of Punjab.

To believe this rag-tag band could rout the well-equipped, very professional 550,000-strong Pakistani army, the sixth-largest military in the world, which has already met the Indian colossus in battle, is a ludicrous proposition. . . .

And, predictably, here's the latest news:

Taliban on the run in Swat
By Syed Saleem Shahzad

ISLAMABAD - Following a barrage of American pressure, Pakistan abruptly abandoned all its existing plans to thwart insurgents and, in a televised speech by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, promptly declared all-out war against the Pakistani Taliban.

Within hours, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Pervez Ashfaq Kiani, launched an aggressive military operation - supported by gunship helicopters, heavy artillery and fighters jets - into northern North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), ransacking Taliban sanctuaries in Swat and other areas. Interior Minister Rehman Malik told the BBC that an estimated 200 militants were killed over the weekend, bringing the total killed in fighting in the region to 700.

Water, electricity and lines of communications were completely cut; the Taliban had no option but to flee. An exodus of the local population also began, with hundreds of thousands of residents leaving their homes. In the most affected districts of Swat, Buner and Shangla, some 70% of the population has fled for their lives. The number may soar to 1.5 million in the weeks ahead. . . .

But I wouldn't expect those who never got into it w/ him to really feel me on this one. He kept his naughtiness pretty much confined to pff and fsz, and then goes on kos and mlw to talk shit about how everyone else is so horrid at those places. I have no idea how he behaved overall at DK, if he had socks, etc. That place has been ancient history to me 4evr.

One abberration(a hint of the truth iow) that went unnoticed at mlw was when he straight out of the blue for absofuckinglutely NO reason made some snide remark to melvin insinuating that melvin had held some mildy anti-semitic view in the past. So melvin blows up at him, quite naturally, and then gets chastised by the group. Eric is only chastised(along with me) days later but in the context of replying to me(when I called him out for weaseling around a question msoc asked him about getting banned at fsz). Typical 'I'm an innocent new person' act.

One of the things Eric has had going for him all this time was that he was irrationally banned by Jack(unless of course there's something more sinister that Jack's still not telling). So he's acquired a sort of pet-status with DT and noom; the unholy trinitee. And then there's the i/p thing, which he's also managed to rewrite for the new audience. Anyway. That's already way too many words dedicated to the topic, and for my own sake I will never address it again.

How 'bout she's already there and has been for a long time.

Eric S. has certainly found a home. I think MSOC banned me as much for stealing the KarmaFish high ground as for the Eat it with Milk diary. I could track it down, but I had put up a diary, oops an essay, on how Israel was being called out by legitimate news sources for their "assymetrical warfare."

I also steal their thunder in that it is not the left per se which is driving the theme about the Joos. That is derived from rightwingers like Michael Rivero, Willis Carto, Jeff Rense, and many others.

MyLeftWing is the home to hypocrites. They are trying too hard to represent the image of the left.

By the way, the Noom who is here is a fake. If you saw it, one of his posts mentions "the joos." That is a phrase I have used. I'm not saying I coined it. "The Joos did it" is something I picked up from someone else, probably a dude named the_last_name_left. But I guess it fits in with lying fakes like Jack's Smirking Revenge who every once in a while gets caught in lies then goes to the scrub brush while amping up more lies. He has deleted a lot from FSZ, not just the Dave stuff.

The people stealing usernames are way out of line. The name David Byron is just too close to DavidByron. For people taking Francis Holland's name or anyone else with a real name, that has to be illegal, imho.

I wouldn't even care about this sock rat username, but he's been copying and pasting my stuff. There must be a rule against spam. Or hey, just let the place become all noise. It's ok to have some basic rules of fairness, while maintaining other rules which enable that one's free speech is allowed. It's tricky business. If socks are allowed, at least make it so they can't spam like that or blur the lines where it isn't so obvious they are socks, imho. This fake noom is not doing satire. He is either an operative or an ubertroll.

By the way, I have noticed that fleabags like Greenwood, Denali, Deedogg, and Jack have been studying my every post. That's fucked up. The lurkers can see what they are up to. I think those fucks are political operatives. You know it.

MSOC sticking up for the rich:

MSOC sticking up for Elisabeth Hasselbek:

My pending comment calling her out:

She is nuts. She wrote a big spiel sticking up for HRH at DKos years ago. Then she quickly wrote an apology and told that lady to go lick some MarisaClit. She blabs about her family all the time. Her husband should divorce her and take custody of the child. She does not appear stable or moral enough to bring up a child. She is clearly not a left winger. She is a poser.

I agree with folks here about how MyLeftWing is slanted towards the perspective of the Israeli Government. MLW is as fair and balanced as Fox News on that issue.

They are running with a meme about photography being used as propaganda. This diary had nothing to do with Israel/Palestine. Take away her raging schtick, and there is nothing there but her connections to other fake lefties.

It looks like she did a movie for an art student. If this is her, it is obvious why she has never made it as an actress and has had to resort to her blogging schtick in a cynical attempt to become famous. What she is really famous for is being unhinged, as in the Washington Post article. That picture of her is what she truly looks like. Take away the make up and fancy photography, and she is not that attractive. Hopefully she can someday find the right medication for the mental illness she has no qualms about sharing with the public.

I can also find a link where she wrote at Kos about masturbating and being with the one she loves. What a bad mom. She needs to grow the fuck up. She should let her husband find a good woman to help raise the kid. Maybe when the kid is older, he'll be able to empathise. There is nothing to her. I listened to one of her interviews with Josh Gibson of Fox News. She had nothing. She has nothing but bold print and salty sailor talk.

MSOC is a fraud (2.20 / 5)
One of her recent posts she said how she rocks because she bought $60 worth of food with $15, implying that she is dirt poor. But above one can see how she thinks taxes on the rich suck.

She tells me to post at wild, wild west soapblox, but one is not allowed to criticise her there.

She has no problem with the photos after finding out they are of Afghanistan people and not Palestinian. Well, what happened to her claims that the photos were propaganda.

I wouldn't have a problem with her, if she hasn't promoted herself as the face of the left. At least an operative like DeeDogg admitted he was a centrist.

I don't like people who misrepresent themselves. I don't believe she has money problems. I can picture the rich people who dominate Kos making sure she gets good money to run her honey pot putting a lid on positive, social movement.

If you check out her stuff, there tends to be a "methinks thou doth protest too much, Fairy BlogNutter" stench.

She's a big supporter of Palestinians? No, her website is dominated by those who claim "hate the Joos" attitudes are coming from leftists, even though I and many others have shown that JooHate is a rightwing value.

She's poor? No, she goes out of her way to astroturf taxing the rich as immoral.

She's far left? No, she goes on Fox News. She slams so-called lefties. I've seen a number of her rants at HuffingtonPost where she slams "kneejerk liberals." I even found a post of hers where she stood up for Fox News.

Hey, I only put up the stuff about her going all crass, because she treated me like shit at MLW. When I found out one could restart there, I tried as KendrickGarnett and made a point to not go after her or her political operatives. But then she banned me yet again, this time for simply posting here that she is not a good mom based on what she has written, and how her son will soon come across her insane rants.

I was banned for no good reason from Democratic Underground in early 2007. I didn't curse. I wasn't a troublemaker. I actually haven't been banned from that many places, and the ones I have been are not exactly ones to feel bad about. But dumbasses like CometMan will consistently post that there is a reason why people like myself and Donkeytale get banned all the time, that it is our own fault. Got astroturf? Running interference for a rigged internet?

I wasn't always Mr. Potty Mouth. I'm still kind of not too bad with that. It's hard to explain. Basically, at BradBlog, DKos, and MLW, my cyberstalkers showed up to give me shit. I then tried to explain it to the admins. They did nothing to ensure the unfounded attacks would stop. So I fought back. Then I got banned. Those admins made no effort to understand. In a way I am grateful that this tart didn't take me up on the offer to learn who I really am, a sincere nobody from Massachusetts.

On the outside MSOC is a lefty, and chicks like that turn me on intellectually. But then when she didn't protect me from unfounded, personal attacks, that's when I looked into it, and it's fairly clear that MSOC is bad, stinking news and someone who runs interference for the right wing.

Her new thread is  on how the Democratic Party is no different from the Republicans. Well, a few weeks ago she called out Mumia t-shirt wearers to get off of Obama's ass. She said to eat it.... with milk. Got bipolar?

MSOC is nasty. It's all in the public, blogosphere records. And yes, her website is boring as shit.

I'm here, but MSOC didnt push me, she's just a minor irritant, like a buzzing dragonfly (2.67 / 3)
or yur ex wife screaming at you over the telephone.

And I have joined no one anywhere.

I cross posted my dairy to prove beyond all shadowthief of a doubt, that I am the one, the only and the forever more, donkeytale.

Accept no substitute.

Accept the original neither, for all I care.

An update, (3.67 / 3)
for those who don't make it over to MLW,

Goddamnit. (5.00 / 1)

I'm sorry.
I'm a total fucking asshole.

Seriously. There's just no other phrase for it. You know that? I am guilty of looking at the pictures and scanning the text and NOT READING IT.

What a total fucking asshole.

I am in COMPLETE GODDAMNED AGREEMENT WITH THE POINT OF THIS POST.

Jesus fucking christ.

Unbelievable. I cannot fucking BELIEVE I did that. Scan, judge and post.

Talk about utter douchebaggery.

I apologise.

And speaking of minor irritants.... (0.00 / 0)
Mrs. Petrie, could you please boot the imposter out of n00m's account and switch RG's effing acct over?

n00m's either too dumb or too proud to ask you himslef. Or maybe he doesnt have an established acct here thats traceable to him at MLW? Once again I blazed a trail for other trollz to follow, but n00m's too busy flipping off cabbies from his ten speed, or wtf.

RIOTOUS

Its his fault for oversockkking himslef everywhere anyway.

Me, I'm like Sockrat. No socks. A few alternate usernames here and there. But you know its me at all times.

I would love for someone to imitate me. I'm pretty sure, tho, whoever is petty enuff to steal a known members userid wouldnt have the stones or the vision to even make the attempt, pathetic as it would shirley be.

He can email me if it really bothers 'him' (4.00 / 2)
Besides I'm not running the grocery getter over to mlw on weekends, grocery day is...Thursday.

You put up with MSOC doing this in the comment thread of your diary but i'm unbearable?

I guess you're as loyal as the size of your audience.

Fuck.

it's called a writers strike (3.50 / 2)
nothing personal, but we content contributors gotta show power

A strike without a clear list of demands? (2.00 / 1)
Ok, Ceasar Chavez.

Bad analogy (assuming it is one) but just to give you an idea of how it turns out the writers buckle with no gain other than limited media exposure and a lot of unused tivo's while simultaneously alienating what little viewership they had.

So A) what would you gain from the strike and B) how could your demands be met other then vague hints that i'm in need of some type of personality change or something.

Posting at MLW shows you agree enough with it to post at a site that bans with an unhinged moderator....while boycotting a site that bans with an unhinged moderator.

Logic fail.

All you did was split up what little fanbase you thought you had and gave me the bigger piece of the wish bone.

Makes more sense to crosspost in tandem at the very least, but then again I propose things like working together for some type of cause rather than placate my ego by making an assumption that my absence from a place effects its standing.

Unless you like posting your amazing thoughts to an audience of stale act socks and 10 actual people.

Clearly you don't, thus why you posted at MLW.

This place is fun and Laura has always been cool by me but how many sub-divisions of the bottom of the barrel can there be before you're eventually talking to yourself?

Just a thought.

Fuck.

Jack's A Smirking DoucheBag (3.00 / 2)
He was not doing a paper on the internet. He is not a student. He is clearly not who he claims to be. He wrote how he has a GED but now is in advanced seminars. He talks about his older lawyer friends. He posts as if people have forgotten all the shit lies he has been caught foisting. This guy is MSOC on crack, er, I mean that's the image he likes to portray. He is a strawman. Anyone who figures shit out is smeared. Jack doesn't mind being exposed as a douchebag, because that's been the plan the whole time. He just wants one of his own concern trolls to do the exposing, not independent voices.

Funny how he emerged out of nowhere. He is clearly working in tandem with the UGOG/KosKops to run interference for DailyKos. It's the cynical same old, same old to keep all the blog hits in the "family." The irony is that even if he did end up wrapping himself around a tree like he has wished for others, his username is probably shared by many operatives.

This guy is insidious, boring, and clearly out of the Brett Kimberlin School of once being exposed as being a fraud, just act like nothing's ever been figured out.

He calls FairLeft "Cesar Chavez." That's a freudian slip showing that this dirtbag is not a leftwinger, anarchist student or whatever bullshit script he has been trying to sell. He realises that plenty of folks have already saved the UGOG files and anything else they felt they should from his dirtbag website. Thus, he has become yet another irrelevant, internet fake who has jumped the shark. This could be Michael Fingerit or one of his associates for all we know. That whole stinking FSZ shithole could be some modern day form of cointelpro or a racket set up by scumbag, political consultants affiliated with Markos Moulitsas Zuniga.

You're presuming a fixed base. Wrong. You're presuming similarly unhinged moderators. Wrong. (4.00 / 2)
You're presuming a "bigger piece of the wishbone." Debatable. You're implying you're honorable, and can uphold a trust agreement. A lie.

Quit bitching and just put in the time doing good things, and maybe people will trust you later. Right now you're just ripping off the scab, over and over. Graceless as before.

i gained a real free speech website to post at; one that doesn't censor content (4.33 / 3)
based on the boss's secret, idiosyncratic, non-obvious idea of what a troll is. And if this one just holds out doing what pff and fsz were spozed to do, then it'll eventually have a fairly large, whatever that means, readership. Destruction of pff and fsz have definitely been setbacks in the quest for a free-speech alternative to dkos and similar (Jack's Place, MSOC's Place, Booman's Place, Armstrong's Place, and so on), no question about it.

This has been explained. (4.00 / 3)
A few times.

vox, just think (3.00 / 2)
when it comes down to it there's really no need for any of us to ever think again or explain ourselves again. Let alone profess an adherence to any particular values set, because good old Jack here has taken it upon himself (for the funfteef time!) to think and speak for us! To project what he wishes we meant on to us :o) It's beautiful :o)

[ Parent ]
I hold out hope for Jack (3.00 / 2)
because his comments indicate that he has walked the walk "in real life," and I respect that, as I think at some level all of us do who have done so at some time or another - or always.

A lot of blogging damage has happened in our tiny cyber-corner because of what has gone on. But, the world still spins. And it spun before all we silly mortals got caught up in all this. I know. I was there....

Jack has not replied to my comments lately. I take that as a sign that he has said what he has to say to me. His comments did not answer the questions I meant to ask so I stay where I am, as is my right. I do not take away his right to engage or not to engage. As I've said before - that's his right, too. Especially here, where he is not an admin.

The sad fact remains: people will attribute motives to others simply for their own comfort, rather than from any basis in reality. I try not to allow myself to do the same in return but undoubtedly fail on a regular basis.

All this a long way of saying - I think it better if I do (or don't) say what I want to concerning JSR to his cyber-face, as I hope he would do to me.

[ Parent ]
you're a better man than me because (3.20 / 5)
I gave up trying to explain my motives to him (and/or his flying monkeys), face to face a while ago. When you repeatedly read someone telling you (and anyone else who'll listen) what you really meant when you said "this" or "that", standards of engagement becomes a secondary concern.

It's such a simple concept. You ban, I leave. I defend a principle, not a person. I post at MLW, as I have for a long time now, under the standards that have always been there and always known to me. This place however, is a place I could make a home at, if it works out that way. The values here reflect my own values.

For people who have the benefit of higher education at some pretty decent schools, you would think they/he could somehow get a grasp of it. So far, no dice. It's almost as if they have to manufacture a reason that better fits their comfort limits.

All I know is that for someone who claims to have come out so much better in this deal, he sure does spend an awful lot of time here.

There's really nothing amusing to me about Jack anymore. The shiny kid who pushes the envelope schtick has lost it's lustre.

[ Parent ]
You are so right vox humana (3.00 / 1)
And it's all ever so sad.  It brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it.  I do so hope that one day everyone can put the badness behind them and all hold hands again.

[ Parent ]
Do you? That's interesting. (0.00 / 0)
It's hard to hold hands in cyberspace. As far as "putting the badness behind them," are you referring to changing the premise of fsz?

I'm not an advocate of "putting badness behind [us]." Talking things out and maybe getting to an understanding? Yeah, I'll get behind that.

So, try to cheer up, Maude. If people confront one another honestly and openly and have their say on the site rather than via back channel e-mails, things could well get better. It's the constant game-playing, the use of sockpuppets, the attempts to derail conversation that I find the real badness that needs to be put behind us.

You?

When considering a reply to Jack's an Asshole.... (2.00 / 1)
just remember that there are paid trolls on the internet, and they do try to fuck with your head. You seem bright enough to not fall for his games. He, like a Lauren S, does not interact logically. I just reread his response, and he sounds very similar to CometMan. And talk about glass houses.

It's like what DonkeyTale wrote last night. This shithead isn't just satisfied to have fucked up FSZ, he wants this place ruined also. I find it disturbing that he seems to have a good relationship with Laura, implying that Laura could be part and parcel of all this bullshit. She needs to show otherwise. I guess a first good step was to change the fake noom's name to not noom.

Jack and his posse are going by the assumption that 99% of the lurkers won't be able to get a general picture of the realities over all the noise. Jack is writing as if he is a psyop. No doubt about it. He's either a psyop writer, or a political consultant playing as one, imho.

U.S. hits 8-year-old Afghan girl with white phosphorus (3.33 / 3)
More war porn, made by our American tax dollars and our heroic soldiers:

EXCLUSIVE - Afghan girl's burns show horror of chemical strike
Fri May 8, 2009 3:36pm IST

By Emma Graham-Harrison

BAGRAM, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Life as 8-year-old Razia knew it ended one March morning when a shell her father says was fired by Western troops exploded into their house, enveloping her head and neck in a blazing chemical.

Now she spends her days in a U.S. hospital bed at the Bagram airbase, her small fingernails still covered with flaking red polish but her face an almost unrecognisable mess of burned tissue and half her scalp a bald scar.

. . .

WHO FIRED?

Rahman said the shell that burned his daughter landed after a firefight near their house in the eastern province of Kapisa. The NATO-led international force there is made up mainly of French troops, with U.S. support.

"(Western) troops were on the road, the Taliban were on the mountain and we were at the house, sandwiched between them. When the Taliban began retreating, they fired artillery at them, 12 rounds. One hit my house," Rahman said.

A spokeswoman for the NATO-led force rejected Rahman's account, saying an internal investigation into the incident concluded that it was "very unlikely" the weapon that hit Razia's house was theirs, because of the timing and location.

U.S. Major Jennifer Willis suggested instead that the Taliban had fired the shot: "An enemy mortar team, known to have been operating in that area, may have been responsible".

The Afghan government, military specialists and experts on the Taliban told Reuters, however, that insurgents have never been observed using white phosphorus. The only forces on the battlefield known to use it are the United States and NATO.
