I know I should be gratefull for this happy aversion.

It's really pretty simple: corporations decide what govt policies are most profitable for them --> corporate donations to politicians --> U.S. foreign & domestic policy. If OPEC is doing the preceding, then you have a point, but I see U.S. corporations as mostly doing the preceding and therefore running U.S. policies.
