I was raised to depsise all things Elvis, but after that one album it wasnt possible...well, that one album and Ann Marget in "Viva Las Vegas."

I aint mean, neither.

My stepfather(who raised me) is 89 years old and at an unknown - to me - stage of alzheimers. I don't even know exactly where he is right now because he divorced my mom and moved around 2000 miles away, partly at the behest of his son, a few years ago. He's the only family member I've ever held affection for. He might be dead already for all I know.

And my biological father died a few months ago...a man I held in a hazy heroic place because I never knew him - he was actually a cold-blooded killer at age 19. After getting out of army prison he killed his estranged grandmother and her boyfriend during a desperate robbery to fund a hypothetical elopement with some married woman. My entire life I was told that he was imprisoned throughout his twenties for accidentally killing some random guy in a barfight. The internet can tell you terrible things that you'd rather not know.

(And don't get me started on my Christian Scientist grandparents and their premature agonizing deaths from treatable conditions, which occurred before I was old enough to innoculate any other family members with some sense. Or my poor cousin who was pushed to eventual familial estrangement because my family enabled his schizophrenic mother to raise him, unmonitored)

So, sorry about your stepfather. And for the meanness you perceive as blog imperviability.

Really who doesn't have some acute tragedy in their life? Maybe I am just classic white trash.

Sorry about all of the above. Ignore it, if you will.  Virtual Group Therapy Finger Diarrhea.

Well actually I blame my mother (4.00 / 1)

She still can't produce a valid reason for divorcing him. AFAIK he was a stand up guy, post-incarceration. After my mom left him he remarried and lived a totally normal life. I saw him and his wife several times throughout the years and he always seemed like a genuinely nice, sensitive guy with a stable existence.

The only thing my mother occasionally concedes is his intelligence...which is of course usually detrimental when you grow up in crushing dysfunctional poverty in Shitville, Ohio. He was the wage earner in kindergarten, collecting scrap metal or wtf. And I assume it was his 'intelligence' that got him thrown in the brig for a few years when he was a juvenile at a military school...and then all that followed was very predictable. His childhood story's really no different than the stereotypical ghetto kid who gets chucked into 'the system' early for some petty juvenile misdemeanor. Just a different backdrop.

the sort of thing that only needs one listen? :) Poor crosseyed Shaq and his dumptruck ass, really underappreciated as a recording artist.

(When I said my father was the wage earner a child, I really meant 'THE', as in his parents were too drunk/stupid to provide for him. I'm not sure how they got by after he was sent to military reform school)
