No doubt, Ms. Clinton would have preferred to set an example by going to a public emergency room and paying out of pocket. There just wasn't time.

Secretary Clinton appreciates the professionalism and kindness she received from the medical team who treated her this evening and looks forward to resuming her full schedule soon.

At least they serve cake while people wait in these emergency rooms. Let them eat it. Professionalism and kindness. And getting back to one's full schedule. That's what it's all about, after all.

One thing that "impressed" me about Hillary during the pres. campaign was (3.00 / 1)
how she appeared to be in very poor physical condition. I can remember one scene where she and Obama (a debate I suppose) had to walk up a short stairwell to get to the stage. Hillarry lumered up, barely making it.

I remember thinking what a perfect "third" boomer prez she would make, as her ballooning weight during the primary season accentuated her pants suit collection to the point her body shape began to resemble Homer Simpsons.

At her age falling is not unusual but its also not typical. O needs to make her hit the workout room in the morning! When she recovers that is.

and I often fail to make people understand. Its my failure, as long as the reader acts in good faith. Good faith is in short supply here, tho. The 'offensive' schtick I picked up from my immediate mentors, Twain, Mencken, Celine, Miller, West, Dylan, Byron (david, that is), Piddy, Gilroy, Bukowski.

Its a necessary element, I find, especially if you write to be read and have influence (why else write?). A writer must contend with Hollywood kkkrap and reality TV after all...

At times I am "vicious" but you are right. Check it out. EVERYBODY plays that game. Well, except for maybe Vox, but after awhile you begin to think that his studied niceness is itself a game. But its a good game. I've learned from him. If anything, I already have toned down the rhetoric and tried to be more patiently explaining. I have started to realize that my experiences are far more wide ranging than average middle class white "liberal," especially those born into the Reagan era. Thats a very limited worldview since the 1980s. I dont expect them to often comprehend me.

I see more than one side always, often to my own detriment as a self-advocate. Actually, I usually see more than two sides.

Ultimately, as I have repeated over and over, for years, the responsibility for making the reader comprehend rests with the writer. Its when the reader purposefully misunderstands, jumps the shark, or simply goes obtuse (such as Laura when I challenged her to back up a provocative statement she made about "real Arab/Iranian leftists)changes topic (especially one the reader introuces then shies away from when challenged) that I tend to become 'seriously' derisive.

And listen to this: beyond the lamely attempted humour lies a deadly seriousness of purpose. This is key to my ouevre, and attitude I have copped directly from my inspirations. The great social satirists.

Whether I reach the mark is another question. I find that I occassionally do. The Turtle story. "Bloggaz are Skkkared of Revolution." I only finished that one last nite BTW, even tho originally posted a few daze back.

I'm beginning to think I should just turn pro and leave this all behind.

But I like being an amateur. It frees me in a way that writing for my supper would have opposite effect. Plus, theres no money in serious writing and I have mouths to feed.

I have to agree that a lot of those that grew up in the 80s live in a Reaganesque sugar castle where fantasy rules.  But hey, when your entire govt is based on fairy tale economic policies and social policies, your frame gets warped.  They're all getting an education now.  Bit of  personal poverty is an eye opener not that I wish that on anyone.  Luckily, most of mine was 2nd generation rather than personal shortage of food, but I did get to see how the 'rents lived just a few short years earlier.

I know how it feels to be blasted like you blast them here, to have an entire board blast the lone dissenter with ad hominems. Hillary ran a truly shameful, immoral campaign in many ways. Largely, this was a result of desperation, but it was telling. She was in over her head and completely unqualified to compete with Obama. I was prescient enough to pick up on this before FLH did. he started the campaign basically in sunch with Dem Party regulars who were all for Hillary in the beginning. I used to debate him on Hillary. I did and still do feel she is a mediocre recipient of nepotism and not that bright. He and I were not always in agreement at all on any number of issues. But I found him interesting, polemical and quite effective as a blogger. Of course, he was right on target about MAMZ. He wasnt the first, however.

Gilroy Stu and I were also highly critical of DKOS going back several years, even before it became a monster site after the 2004 election.

But it was Francis who galvanized the criticism with his MAMZ series. That was blogging brilliance, approaching journalism. I wrote about it extensively on MLW. And I defended him extensively against the howling mobs, until I was banned too.

I don't begrudge Clinton for going to the nearest Emergency Room, nor do I begrudge her having health insurance.  

Ted Kennedy jetted all over this country for cancer treatment...don't recall a diary questioning the fact that as part of the ruling elite he had options in chosing where he received his treatment...options that the vast majority of us (both uninsured and insured) don't have.

Hillary Clinton is the secretary of state, not the secretary of health and human services.

Actually, I climbed up to the window (a friend was locked out of his flat).  Just as I got the window open, I lost my balance, did a mid-air kitty-kkkat flip and did a bellysmaker on the pavement below.  I was told that I looked like a seasoned skydiver for a split second.  This happened in broad daylight on a sunny Sunday in the middle of the Castro.  I shit my pants and then passed out.  I have never lived it down.  

I hope Hillary didn't shit her pantsuit -- would be kind of hard negotiating with Iran when their ambassador looks over and says:  "Madame Secretary, do you remember the time you fell and shit yourself?"
