Syria (0.00 / 0)
(Reuters) - Syria's conflict spilled further into Lebanon on Saturday when mortar fire from President Bashar al-Assad's forces hit villages in the north, killing five people after rebels crossed the border to seek refuge, residents said.

Rebels fighting to unseat Assad have used north Lebanon as a base and his forces have at times bombed villages and even pursued insurgents over the border, threatening to stoke tension in Lebanon, whose sectarian rifts mirror those in Syria.

Residents of Lebanon's Wadi Khaled region said several mortar bombs hit farm buildings five to 20 km (3 to 12 miles) from the border at around 2 a.m. At midday villagers reported more explosions and said they heard gunfire close to the border.

In the village of al-Mahatta, a house was destroyed, killing a 16-year-old girl and wounding a two-year old and a four-year old, family members told Reuters. A 25-year-old woman and a man were killed in nearby villages, residents said.

Two Bedouins were killed in the village of Hishe, which straddles a river demarcating the border, when two rocket-propelled grenades fired from within Syria hit their tent, according to local residents.

Lebanon's army confirmed one of the deaths and said several Syrian shells had landed in Lebanese territory, but had no further information. Lebanese President Michel Suleiman issued a statement regretting the deaths and promising an investigation.

http://www.reuters.com/article...

Yes, Syrian troops follow some rebels into Lebanon and bomb villages, farm buildings and civilian homes.

And uber leftists remain loyally silent to Monster Bloodletter Assad.

Sunnis have been gearing up for a showdown with Iranian/Syrian puppet Hezbollah in Lebanon. This sure as hell ain't gonna help matters there.

good news from Libya....

TRIPOLI- A coalition of liberal parties have made a strong showing against well-organized religious groups in Libya's first free election since Moammar Gadhafi seized power in 1969, according to unofficial results reported by party officials and election observers.

Official tallies aren't expected for several days, but authorities from rival groups including the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated party and the secular coalition headed by former rebel leader Mahmoud Jibril say they have noted high vote counts for Mr. Jibril's group, especially in Libya's major urban centers, where the vast majority of the nation's six million people live.

C'mon Devore, you know you wanna. I promise to hold my tongue. I grew to like them on PFF.

Gaped Crusader once posted a recipe for donkeytale fricasee. I'm sure yiu can do better den dat. Chihuahua tartare?

I took a spin past Mariscat's and it looks like the old dearie is down to posting only two threads per month, which are still filled with endless variations on the theme of "we're so screwed." So much fake doom/gloom emanating from her wholly own Victorian Mansion (inherited no doubt) in the heart of the Most Expensive Real Estate Development in the known Universe. How screwed can a multimillionaire heiress really be?

But I will say this for Devore: no matter what, she's not Failreft.

That's two huge additions by subtraction if yur scoring at home. I look at the positive side. Even if the net result is still zero.

At least it's a life affirming zero. Or something.

It appears interest in the Kimberlin Kerfluffle has mercifully died. BTW, I seriously doubt, no I know, that Breitbart's 10 mil isn't going to fund the Walker/Nagy's of the world or their smalltime nonsense. People putting down real money want real ROI. That's 'return on investment' for socialist/disability recipients. Just sayin. That money funded a separate LLC meaning Breitbart probably didn't control its useage anyway. and since he croaked who knows what happened? Probably languishing in a money market fund somewhere.

Mr Follow the money Reft's recent reversion roo racism really rucked. Very gratifying to see him disappear while his predictioning house of fake left cards disintegrates into the discarded and forgotten failed fake left meme dump.

Libya holds successful elections. Annan plan fails. Asswad exposes himself as brutal murder/torturer all the while supported morally by Fake Left. Jeralyn donation whores for racist killer Zimmerman. That is personal information. If you had a smidgen of empathy, you wouldn't be throwing it around so non-challantly, especially considering you are an anonymous coward.

Yesterday I put up one of my more important entries of late at DFQ2, yet you are nowhere to be found.

I sent you an invite to blog at DFQ2, and you have ignored that.

DFQ2 has been soaring of late for page views. I figured you would take advantage of that.

The Salon article was mailed in. It was simply a better version of what Tbogg wrote at FDL. But I'm not going to discuss that here. And if you post at DFQ2, please sign in at blogger. You said you would if I offered you a return to front page status. But if you are a hypocrite.... And if you are done with this story and/or DFQ2, fine. I'll survive the end of our friendship. I'm just very tired of you being lazy and not signing in. Anonymous entries are lame.

I didn't say anything you didn't already say yourself, and very publicly, I might add. Must I share the direct quotes to shut you the fuck up? Lets not go there. You're my friend. The truth shall set us all free.

It is the lies that blind. And don't break your arm patting yourself on the back for nothing. You are as dishonest as me, Vox, Rauhauser or anybody else.

Bet on it.

If friendship to you depends on following a certain (dying) story, whose true meme in any event you had to lift entirely from my Troll Wars series in order to get it right after several months of flailing about like an idiot, then....

Bi! C ya.

Your melon has grown way too huge for the strength of your pencil neck to hold up straight anyway....

[ Parent ]
Your contrarian + sadism schtick holds you back from blogging greatness (2.00 / 1)
You did a good job with Troll Wars but are overstating your importance. You didn't actually make the first step towards declaring SWATgate a Breitbart fundraising hoax until I'd say around May.

You finally said something like Patterico was the King Douche. That statement opened my eyes.

Yet you were wrong about Ron except for the part about the SWATs. You are kind of like a TBogg but also tore into him. You have been very simplistic in your analysis.

You got it wrong that Judge Vaughey fucked up.

Whatever dude, you can say I have a big head, but I've come up with a lot of good stuff especially of late. Yes, it's a dead story, but the Aaron Walker emails I have just posted are pure gold. Since November I did my best. But of course you want to frame it all about yourself. You are a hyposcrite. You're the one with the biggest ego of them all.

And I didn't see you debunking the rest of the Breitbart cult. Who the fuck doesn't know it's obvious Andrew Breitbart was a fraud.

But I'm not gonna belittle you more han I just did. If you don't want to blog at DFQ2, then fuck it. You can have your fun here, before it gets slow again, or maybe all the other dickheads will return and you'll be in heaven on blogosphere. I'm just saying you are not all that. You are a contrarian and sadistic with no empathy.

[ Parent ]
First, you say "get yur facts straight." (0.00 / 0)
My facts are straight and you know it, since obviously you can't back up the bulshiite you flung first and now second.

In fact, my facts are straight on Vaughey and Brynaert too. So, once again, you are dead wrong. Or if I wanted to dwell in your fucked up universe, I couldd say 'you're a liar'.

When you dispute facts you need to prove it up, doughboy. Show yur werk. Your lazy assertions alone aren't made meaningful simply because yur hot air has the force of empty egotism. This aint Twitter, which obviously has turned you into an overbearing, smarmy dumbass inflicting your smug sense of entitlement on the whiteysphere.

Second, not able to back yur own argument factually, you suddenly switch to opinionating.

Your opinion is fine. Its also more changeable than the weather, therefore wholly meaningless. You are the Mitt Romney of blogging, inhabitating all sides of every issue at one time or another.

Get some real game back and maybe I'll consider posting at DFQ2.

Posting someone's private emails is a breach of trust. Important work? More like, it shows how desperate you are to remain relevant inside a dead story that others (ahem) had to figure out for you. And now that we have, all yiu can do is sit there and self-importantly type the same lifted meme over and over and over again, my friend, as if MAMZ died and left you queen of the whiteysphere.

"Both sides suck." Wow. The Mighty Oz has spoken. What incisive brilliance!

RIOTOUS!

Wake the fuck up, Socrates!

[ Parent ]
You're full of it (4.00 / 1)
You were wrong on Aaron getting arrested for blogging or something. You even admitted it. Something about being wong. But in your lazy contrarian bullshit way, you are asking me to provide links and stuff on this crap blog that no one reads anyway. Fuck that, and fuck you.

You're a lazy ass who just like Ronald Reagan has never been good with details. I recall you going oh yeah, Lyndon Larouche, Rivero, Larisa, ok I see right woos left you tosser.

You have the biggest ego in the blogosphere for such an anonymous coward. And that was no breach of ethics with those emails considering that dickhead has been portraying himself as an attorney when he wasn't. I guess you missed him calling his real name Aaron Worthing from Molasses Virginia and taunting Islamofascists to attack him, while asking folks to send in picture of Mohammed picking his nose or something while also proving real names and locations.

It's called whistleblowing, you doucheface. And by the way, I will not be reading any response. Technically this will be the last word. Since about 17 people read this blog soon to drop to 8 since I'm not officially gone for good.

You've been riding my coattails for years. Grow up and stop being such a jerk. As for Twitter, whatever. You're a lazy ass who doesn't even know how to take screenshots. Tonight I totally took care of Brandon Darby while you continue to flail around here with fakeleft and Arab hater Noom, with the latter you two practice your misogyny or however it's spelled. Maybe I spelled that right. It gets confusing with the i's and y's. But for real. I'm done. If you respond to this, I promise I will not be reading whatever you write. You lie too much and play head games too much. Just stop being an ass, and be yourself, and maybe people wouldn't eventually recognise how much of a scumbag you love to be.

[ Parent ]
cuz eye'm supposed to (3.00 / 1)
luv these people, right soc?

eye support moderate Arabs, liberal Arabs. Arabs who strive for peace and co-existance. And Arabs fighting against dictators of all stripes. Maybe when they get a taste of freedom a more liberal polity will prevail as is happening in Libya. Of curse the opposite has happened in Egypt but that's because the facist, lying, imperialist mubros have run the street there for decades.

on the other hand, aholes like laura psycho and fairleft support the Arabs you see in this video. But that's only because these Arabs hate Jews and want to overrun Jerusalem, Judaisms oldest and most sacred city. Somehow these fuckers in the video have it in mind that Jerusalem belongs to Muslims. These fuckers aren't satisfied with their own shite, they want everyone else's too.

So who are the imperialists? Right, these Arabs

but laura psycho and fairleft hate Arabs who strive for freedom and who may want to align themselves with the more liberal west. Note laura psycho's recent bizarre and irrational statement that "Bahrain is more eviler than Syria." Only a rabid ideologue and psychopath disconnected from reality would make such bizarre claims.

Not to mention the SILENCE regarding the much more eviler regimes in KSA, Bahrain, Yemen etc.

Laura Psycho

Laura Psycho and fairfraud would support an uprising in Saudi Arabia but only if it meant an anti-western alignment. If it meant fighting for human rights but maintaining a western alignment they woode oppose it or remain indifferent. So basically, they hate the Saudi people. Of curse SA funds radical groups throughout the ME playing both sides, and of curse SA funds these radical groups with uber leftist, gas guzzling greenbacks, so its complicated.

So fairfraud hates the Syrian people, hates the Iranian people, hates any Arab who opposes Hezbollah and hates any Arabs who might want even a hint of cordial relations with the west. Basically fairfraud supports Arab imperialism.

I don't even think fairfraud supported the Egyptian people against Mubarak. So he's just a hater with no rhyme or reason except he likes to throw the imperialism word around a lot. Nevermind imperialism is something most nations engage in or have engaged in. Look at Turkey's recent genocide of a million Armenians and their massive empire. And Arab imperialism which went on unchecked for centuries throughout the ME. And Iran's flagrant imperialism in the region.

of curse these rebellions are post-imperialist. They're organic, homegrown responses to dictators and ayatollahs. Uber leftists, however, have so little respect for Arabs and Persians that they continually claim these uprisings are all CIA and wtf affairs.

How much more racist can you get? uber leftists are haters. period.

We just learned that the cat we have had the pleasure of knowing since our twins were in first grade now has lymphoma.  Our "children" just graduated high school. He was there the whole way.  Eleven to twelve years is a long time in human life - in our children's case, from learning of one's own life to conceiving of another's mortality.

Growing up, I never had pets other than tropical fish.  Thus, I would never have had any idea.  Please accept my belated condolences and my apologies on behalf of those like my former self, who still have no idea.

On the other hand - to those reading who only know pets and might dare to claim otherwise: no, they are not children.  No, they are not the same.  Pets are (and most definitely should be) beloved creatures in their own right.

Abbas won't sign end of conflict accord (0.00 / 0)
sure right

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has accused the former US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice of fabricating a crucial conversation between them that she quoted in her memoirs, concerning his failure to accept prime minister Ehud Olmert's 2008 peace offer.

In her book "No Higher Honor" published last year, Rice describes how she traveled to Ramallah in May 2008 and "sketched out the details" of Olmert's offer, which covered West Bank territorial arrangements, security issues, the division of Jerusalem, and a proposal regarding Palestinian refugees that provided for a very limited number to enter Israel. Abbas started negotiating immediately, she wrote, and she quoted him saying: "I can't tell four million Palestinians that only five thousand of them can go home."

In an interview broadcast Saturday night on Israel's Channel 2 news, however, Abbas flatly denied saying anything of the kind. Indeed, he said no such conversation took place.

Asked about the "four million" comment, he said, "I absolutely did not say that."

Was the secretary lying, the interviewer asked? "I'm not calling her a liar," Abbas responded. "I am saying that we never had that conversation."

Similarly, in the same interview, Abbas denied making another key comment relating to the Olmert proposal, in this case to the Washington Post journalist Jackson Diehl. In a May 2009 interview with Abbas, Diehl quoted the PA leader as saying, of the Olmert offer, that "the gaps were wide."

"I didn't say that," Abbas said in the Channel 2 interview.

Abbas told Channel 2 he wanted to advance peace efforts with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and strongly believed in peace. He ducked a direct question on whether he was ready to sign an "end of conflict" accord, but said he would resort to UN recognition of Palestine only if there was "no diplomatic horizon" and stressed that he was "not issuing ultimatums."

He said he had no preconditions for talks with Netanyahu, but at the same time demanded the release of 123 prisoners jailed by Israel since before the Oslo process began, and said he shared the stance of the "whole world" in demanding a halt to settlement expansion.

He said the "true" Palestinian refugee numbers were that 950,000 had lost their homes when Israel was established, according to UNRWA, and that there were now five million refugees "and I'm one of them." He urged Netanyahu: "Let's discuss it. Let's solve it together."

Asked whether settlers who wished to do so would be able to remain inside a Palestinian state, Abbas first said this would be a function of the "land swaps" involved in an accord, but then added, "I don't oppose any Jew who wants to live with me."

Abbas, in the interview, also ruled out the possibility of another "armed intifada." And asked, in the context of the rise of Islamist movements in the region, whether he feared a Hamas victory in the next elections, he said, "If that is the will of the people, I will accept it."

In response to Abbas's comments on the peace process, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement: "Till now, Abbas never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Even after PM Netanyahu made unprecedented steps such as freezing construction in the settlements, Abbas kept on refusing to hold talks. Even now, PM Netanyahu calls upon president Abbas to meet soon in order to promote the peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians."

http://www.timesofisrael.com/a...

there it is. the pals want to flood Israel with decendants of refugees, refugess who fled Israel in 1948 because they and their Arab brethren tried to further extinguish Jews and remove a nascent Israel from the map.

no other people ever in history held on to refugee status after the first generation but the UN has a built up bereauracry that absolutely refuses to push anything stating that pals living abroad should get absorbed into the general populations of their host Arab states. uber leftists never take up the cause of these pals living in dismal camps in Arab states. That's because they are used as pawns against the Jews.

duh

note how Abbas absolutely refuses to answer the question if he'll sign an "end of conflict" peace accord. Thank yu Abbas for making my recent points so clear. The pals are full of shit.

"settlements" aren't a hindrance to peace. a) they can be removed b) there can be land swaps c) the pals and Arabs never wanted peace with Israel before there ever were any so-called settlements in the west bank Judea, historical Jewish land. Land that has never been "palestinian".

Jews were ethnically cleansed from Arab countries throughout the region becoming refugees, but they don't fucking whine about it. pals wage war, lost, and are now crying, playing on historic anti_Jew canards to further their goals. it s a fucking disgrace. pals living abroad need to go to the west bank and gaza, time to build it up and move on ya fuckin babies.

But not only is Rice lying, Jackson Diehl is also lying according to Abbas. He's a far from pro _Israel columnist. Yeah, Olmert made a great offer, Abbas turned him down flat.

the pals don't want no "end of conflict" agreement. yu know it and eye know it.

But Abbas never said any of these things right. Everybody but him is lying. same as it ever was with pal Arab imperialist leadership.

Jewish refugees (0.00 / 0)
This month the United Nations marks World Refugee Day, a star-studded, multimedia campaign to raise awareness about the plight of refugees. Celebrities like Angelina Jolie have cut video spots that will be broadcast on television and spread on social media. Millions will participate in events spanning five continents, from concerts in London to a film festival in Beirut to a bike race in Ecuador. Yet mention of one group of refugees will be noticeably absent from any of these activities: the 850,000 Jews expelled from Arab countries during the past six decades. Their history remains one of the 20th century's greatest untold stories.

At the end of World War II, 850,000 Jews lived in Arab countries. Just 8,500 remain today. Their departure was no accident. After Arab leaders failed to annihilate Israel militarily in 1948, they launched a war of terror, incitement, and expulsion to decimate their own ancient Jewish communities.

In Iraq Jewish businessman Shafiq Adas, then the country's wealthiest citizen, was immediately arrested on trumped-up charges and publicly lynched. This was followed by bombings targeting Jewish institutions, arbitrary arrests of Jewish leaders, and massive government seizures of property. Within years virtually all of Iraq's 2,500-year-old Jewish community had fled, emptying the country of many of its greatest artists, musicians, and businessmen.

Similar scenes played out across the region, from Egypt to Syria to Libya to Yemen. State-sanctioned pogroms descended on Jewish neighborhoods, killing innocents and destroying ancient synagogues and Jewish cemeteries. New, draconian laws prevented Jews from public worship, forced them to carry Jewish identity cards, and seized billions of dollars in their property and assets. The total area of land confiscated from Jews in Arab countries amounts to nearly 40,000 square miles -- about five times the size of Israel's entire land mass.

The vast majority of these Jewish refugees came to Israel, nearly doubling its population. Most entered the Land of Milk and Honey with no milk, no honey, and no money. They were embraced with full citizenship rights and ambitious programs for integration, rising to the highest levels of society.

The years have passed, but the injustice inflicted upon these Jewish refugees continues. Many around the world have remained silent and complicit as Arab governments have sought to erase all memory of their stories.

Nowhere is this revisionist history clearer than in the halls of the United Nations. Year after year Palestinian refugees attract more attention and resources at the U.N. than Britney Spears at a paparazzi convention, yet not a single syllable about the Jewish refugees expelled from Arab countries can be found in any of the 1,088 U.N. resolutions on the Middle East or the 172 U.N. resolutions dedicated to Palestinian refugees.

While Arab leaders have found a refuge from reality at the U.N., they have been unable to outrun the consequences of religious and sectarian persecution, incitement, and violence at home. In the rubble of Aleppo's former Jewish neighborhoods, Assad's Allawite-led regime continues to brutally suppress Syria's Sunni-led uprising. In Egypt mobs burn Coptic Christian churches in the same way that they attacked synagogues years ago. In Baghdad, where Jews once constituted a third of the population, Sunnis and Shiites remain pitted against each other after years of bloodshed.

Forging a peaceful future in the Middle East will require Arab governments to finally learn the lessons of their pasts. They must build inclusive societies that protect minorities and offer everyone a seat at the decision-making table.

The first steps toward true pluralism will come when Arab countries acknowledge the history of persecution and intolerance in their own lands. They should start by unearthing the 850,000 untold stories of Jews ripped from their ancient homes.

The historic Jewish presence in the Arab World must be recognized. The grave injustices inflicted upon them must be acknowledged. The crimes committed against them must be rectified.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...

it's time to acknowledge Arab crimes against Jews....

Yur (and Laura's, Devore's and the Angry Californian's) shallow fake leftism disseminated here: (0.00 / 0)
The regime has not done nearly enough compared to its allies in consolidating its anti-imperialist stance mainly because it is busier consolidating its internal control and dominance. To continue to insist on blanket support for Asad under the pretense of an anti-imperialist stance is to confuse anti-imperialism with blind support for nationalist elites. Furthermore, a refusal to conflate the two is not an invention of "liberal armchair intellectuals" as some first wayers claim. Such a refusal was substantively formulated by one of the pillars of anti-colonial thought, Frantz Fanon, whose name is conspicuously absent from the political lexicon of Asad apologists. Long before neoliberal elites had come to power, Fanon warned against the excesses of nationalist bourgeois elites (ed note: IE, Puton, Ahmadickiewad, Qadaffy and Asswad) in using anti-imperialist or anti-colonial discourse to disguise their own comprador role in consolidating imperialist structures of control. Fanon's analysis might actually help explain why some Arab leftists, who are likely more sensitive to anti-colonial history than international anti-imperialists, are third wayers rather than outright supporters of the regime.

..............

Back then, the Soviet Union was much more anti-imperialist than today's oligarchy-ruled and market-oriented Russia. Yet, leaders from the global south such as Nasser, Nehru, and Nkrumah recognized the need to chart an independent path of anti-colonial struggle to avoid total dependency on the great powers. A similar-but certainly not identical-logic might well be behind third-way thinking. Syria has turned into a playground for a global power struggle, and the ultimate losers are the Syrian people themselves. One of many crucial differences between the non-aligned movement then and third way politics (ed. note: IE, FAKE LEFTISM) in Syria today is that the third way in Syria today has remained largely a political position, with little political power to make such a position more concretely visible. Asad apologists fail to make this distinction between the lack of political power and the lack of a political position.

With a lot of wordy word words. I suppose that's why you like it. It fleshes out the vapid msm storyline of "revolution". Nevermind the absence of facts. Nevermind the horrific massacres of gov't supporters, scientists, and anyone who's a recent Shia convert, by some ghostly government death squad who heard that 20th dimensional checkers is the way to go if you really want to confuse your supporters. Or something. But hey YouTube and anon say that it IS the gov, going around slashing their own supporters' throats in the night, so it must be true.

We can always count on you rightwingers to back the foreign-trained death squads, and that the craftier the stagecraft, the less you need your male enhancement drugs to really get into your war phases. So all is in order.

or should I say "funee?"

Rancor is starting to bore me.

Let's reflect how we got into "blogging" in the first place.

I started out with reading "Eschaton" and Josh Marshall. Josh caved into supporting the bush43 war in Iraq. Markos was against it. and thus many of us got there. Including Marisicat, Madman in the Marketplace.

[ Parent ]
They are miserable (4.00 / 1)
I too wish blogging had less rancor.

I started getting into it around 2006, not sure exact dates. Uhm. I posted first consistently at Huffington Post, before one needed to register.

The plamegate stuff was hittting a climax ony to as you know result in another dud for justice.

All the best stuff seemed to go on before then, at least for Meta. Thus one needed to dive into forum archives to get a feel for what this is all about. That's what I did.

That was around the time Markos outed himself as CIA loving. There was the Netvocates story and other astroturfing shites also got busted. I actually then got away from the political slant and studied weather mitigation. Only to be drawn back into wondering wtf was up with the internet.

The word chemtrails is a bad one cause it distorts what's really going on. I actually proved not all contrails are contrails. But the convolution got laid down so thick like fake clouds, most people are probably ashamed to admit they too think something fishy is going on up there.

The word rancor says it all. People can't debate their points without getting sadistic. It's not only a Daily Kos thing. Too bad the people who branched off of Daily Kos are as sadistic as those who are DKos. That's why the internet sucks. There are too many donkeytales and Nooms. Even Laura and Fairleft have their sadistic moments. This blog is doomed, and I suspect Laura will at some point stop coughing up the $15 per month or whatever it is.

[ Parent ]
Self-defense isn't sadism (0.00 / 0)

As always when dealing with trolls into it for the rancor, I and I guess Laura get caught in the 'which came first the chicken or the egg' phenomena. And in mainstream blog world our self-defense would be used to get us banned and keep the mainstream-defending troll. But, anyway, if I've been accidentally sadistic toward you or 'tale or anyone I apologize. I just don't think I have been.

But, some sad sacks interpret a pisser sense of humor as sadism. That's not the path to enlightenment, in my humble opinion.

As I've said many times, dealing with 'tale -- and his betters and worsers throughout the internet -- rationally and with good humor and common sense can make a person a stronger advocate and martial artist for their point of view. So he's good for me, in limited doses. Repetition and getting down into his bottomless bile pit, not good.

Repetition and getting down into his bottomless bile pit, not good.

I can also hide behind yur comedy dodge too.

Blogging, if it is anything, is the height of Absurdist tragicomedic interaction. At all times. Everywhere. Ionesco would be a blogger today. Ditto Beckett. The theater was never the right venue for either.

"nothing is funnier than unhappiness".

--Beckett

From the always authoritative Wikipod:

The Theatre of the Absurd (French: Theatre de l'Absurde) is a designation for particular plays of absurdist fiction written by a number of primarily European playwrights in the late 1950s, as well as one for the style of theatre which has evolved from their work. Their work expressed the belief that human existence has no meaning or purpose and therefore all communication breaks down. Logical construction and argument gives way to irrational and illogical speech and to its ultimate conclusion, silence.[1]

Notice how much silenter the Whiteysphere grows day by day.

FYI, my recent absurdist eruptions have been largely nostalgic, as well as in vehement overreaction to both Vox's absurdist humanism and Scorates's absurdist morally incoherent duplicity.

Off topic, but why did you drop Al Akhbar from the top of the blogroll? Interesting interview here. Another false pillar falls...??? (0.00 / 0)
http://therealnews.com/t2/inde...

BLUMENTHAL: It doesn't have to. Let me come back to that and just make one more point, which is that in the past weeks, I had learned of a major exodus of key staffers at Al-Akhbar over the Syrian issue. This issue exploded right after I joined Al-Akhbar to write about Israel-Palestine and to cover foreign-policy debates in Washington. So Syria wasn't my beat. The Arab world wasn't my beat. I didn't really anticipate writing about it or discussing it on the website. But the conflict over Syria has divided the Lebanese left. And so the debates at Al-Akhbar really reflected the debates inside the Lebanese left. And what it came to by this spring, apparently, was that the pro-Assad faction, which saw him and his regime as an anti-imperialist bulwark, had more or less won out, although some dissident voices remain.

Now, in my view, it's a ridiculous contention to make that Assad is a legitimate anti-imperialist figure. Just because there are Western imperial designs on Syria doesn't make him a freedom fighter. It doesn't make him a legitimate anti-imperial figure. He's always being a self-interested autocrat. His regime has in fact offered negotiations with Israel with no preconditions. They allowed the U.S. to render terror suspects, including those who appeared to be completely innocent, to Syria for torture. You know. And at the same time-.

JAY: And in particular the famous case of the Canadian, Maher Arar.

BLUMENTHAL: Maher Arar. Right. And he was innocent. So Syria was doing these favors to the United States.

But really for me it came down to the question of Palestine, something I really care about and which I've committed myself to. And I don't claim to speak for any Palestinians. This was a personal choice for me. I mean, I'm speaking for myself. But knowing Syria's history with Palestine, for example, invading Lebanon to crush the Palestinian national struggle taking place in cooperation with the Lebanese left, besieging the Tel al-Zaatar camp and eventually massacring its inhabitants with the approval of the United States, this is Syria's history, and it's not a history of standing in solidarity with Palestinians, necessarily. It's a history of acting in its own self-interest, as any dictatorial regime or as any state does.

And, you know, I think the left needs to move beyond looking to state power as a means of advancing what should be humanistic ambitions, especially in a time of worldwide revolt not just in the Arab world, but even the United States and Europe, against the austerity measures. How can you make apologies for a dictator in one country and then support people power in another country? Similarly-.

[ Parent ]
No reason really, it was sort of redundant (5.00 / 1)
It wasn't a link to al akhbar, just AAK's corner of it. It was redundant and the link was slow - not too many posts or comments, and I much prefer his own site for content. Though contrary to what u may think I don't always agree with him.

And anyway that interview isn't "interesting", it's just more false equivalency among talking heads. No one opposed to imperial aggression against Syria has maintained that Assad is some sort of leftist hero, at any stage in this. I could give two fucks if some "Lebanese intellectual" feels that way about it. It's just more divide and conquer bs. Yes we all remember Maher Arar, and the lesser known victims as well. Assad was playing the same game as all the regional leaders who figured they wouldn't be offed if only they played, he was "cooperating". Just like Qaddafi. These acts of self-imposed cowardice are sort of like a knee to the groin before the takedown. Hopefully those two will be the last to fall for it but all that's rather immaterial because most of the surrounding countries have more or less US-compliant puppets installed. And it really doesn't matter how they treat Iran in the end, since it is the last domino(they think). They can just totally make shit up and then destroy all the evidence with massive air campaigns and claim victory(they think).

The fact is that these sort of "debates" only exist for one purpose, to get you talking about something besides the violent overthrow of legitimate governments by outside forces who stand to make some gain either monetarily or strategically. I mean it's only been happening over and over for the past hundred years..do you still need the cliff notes?

You play the terrorist card more than a run of the mill GOP operative....hmmmm.

The question's now been turned around on you, Asswad Jr.

Haha.

With actual, y'know allegations based on eyewitness testimony.

FARES: Al Qaeda was an ally of Bashar al Assad after 2003.  He trained and provided shelter and built safe havens for Al Qaeda to hide in.

I remember one of those safe havens was in al Sukariya in Abu Kamal. The Americans raided it [in 2008] and captured prisoners.  This was a hiding place for Al Qaeda on the border with Iraq. And it was under the control of Assif Shawkat, the brother in law of the president.

WATSON: You saw with your own eyes that Assif Shawkat was leading this Al Qaeda in Iraq operation?

FARES:  One hour after the raid, Assif Shawkat was there at the location.  A conversation took place between me and him... And he was angry about the attack made against Al Sukariya, and he was kind of scared.

The Al Qaeda in Syria and the one that worked in Iraq have a strong relationship with Bashar al Assad.  But he scares the West by showing them that the only successor to the regime in Syria would be Al Qaeda.  And he scares the Syrian people that if he leaves, Al Qaeda will come.

cracks in Iran's Rev Guards (4.00 / 1)
A former general of Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards has accused the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of having blood on his hands over the brutal crackdown on the opposition, and described government claims that its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful as a "sheer lie".

In a letter to prominent opposition activist Mohammad Nourizad (website in Farsi), the former officer gives a rare glimpse of political dissent within the ranks of the elite force in charge of the nuclear programme and Khamenei's personal security.

Identified only by his initials, the general says that he and a number of his colleagues were threatened with execution for disloyalty and then - after a series of secret courts-martial - dismissed "because we refused to participate in the betrayals and the crimes committed by our seniors".

I'm writing this letter to you to tell our people that there are still many generals and members of staff within the Revolutionary Guards who are opposed to these crimes and are waiting to join the people, the letter reads.

Speaking to the Guardian by telephone from Tehran, Nourizad - who published the general's letter on his website - said he was convinced of its authenticity because it was handed to him in person by the former general.

"This is one of the many such letters written by senior figures within the Sepah [Revolutionary Guards] that I have received. I have refrained from publishing many of them because I was worried they might pose security problems," said Nourizad.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards are an elite force separate from the Iranian army and under the direct command of the country's supreme leader. The corps was founded to protect Iran's revolutionary values, but has become increasingly involved in politics and business.

In the aftermath of the fiercely disputed 2009 elections, several dozen Revolutionary Guards generals, as well as senior figures in the informal voluntary Basij militia, were replaced for refusing to use violence against unarmed protesters.

According to the general, the order to open fire on the protesters came from the top. "[In 2009,] the leader [Khamenei] asked Rahim Safavi [a former chief commander of the guards] whether he would be prepared to run over people with tanks if they took to streets to revolt. He said yes and the leader gave him the order," he writes.

They shut our mouth for years by saying that the leader wanted this or that ... But we could no more keep it shut after the post-election bloodshed. This was the point many spoke out or simply refused to comply.

According to the general, Khamenei was also personally involved in the restrictions imposed on the opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, who is still under house arrest with little access to the outside world. "How can a supreme leader with blood on his hands be close to God?," he asks.

The general also accuses Khamenei of lying about Iran's nuclear programme, which is now subject to an international dispute, the general casts doubt on what the regime officials claim to be "peaceful" activities, describing them as the country's "nuclear gamble".

"The inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency are fooling themselves if they believe that the nuclear facilities on and under the ground are only for peaceful purposes," he writes. "The leader said [in a fatwa] that Iran has only peaceful intentions with its nuclear activities. This is a sheer lie."

"We undertook this nuclear gamble with the leader's knowledge - that's why we are paying billions of dollars into Chinese and Russian bank accounts so that they support us in international negotiations and we could find a way out of this stalemate." Opposition activists often accuse the Iranian government of securing political support from China and Russia with preferential oil contracts and business opportunities.

Cracks in the elite rev guards, that's welcome news.

Ayafuckwad Khamenei ordered tanks to run over protesters. Well, he's a nutjob lunatic so no surprise there.

Ayafuckwad's prolly getting more paranoid by the day. His rev guards, responsible for his personal security, has some unhappy people in it.
